Geraldine (Geri) Cadet

Geraldine (Geri) Cadet is a student in the Clinical Science Ph.D. program at Florida International University. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Florida International University (FIU). As an undergraduate at FIU, Geri was a Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Fellow while concurrently participating in the Global Health Study Abroad Program (GHSA). As a Fellow, she traveled to Mysore, India and conducted a mixed-methods independent research study evaluating Indian mothers’ perceptions of behaviors associated with ADHD under the leadership of Drs. Dionne Stephens and Purnima Madhivanan. Following her time abroad, Geri became the assistant program director and youth counselor at The Barnyard Community Center, an educational non-profit organization that provides free after school and summer programs to children from low-income families living in West Coconut Grove. Most recently, Geri worked as a research coordinator in the Child and Family Well-being Lab at FIU under the mentorship of Dr. Justin Parent.

Geri is mainly interested in examining how socioeconomic, racial, and community-level factors (e.g., exposure to violence) impact early childhood psychological functioning. Additionally, she is interested in evaluating culturally relevant mental health services for children, school readiness, and child and family well-being.
